Cricket's Three Formats and Major Tournaments
Understanding the format is important before betting on cricket. Each format plays differently — so the markets work differently too.
Twenty20 (T20)
Each team plays just 20 overs, so matches end quickly. BPL, IPL and the T20 World Cup are played in this format — it is the most popular among Bangladeshi fans. The run rate is high and the result can shift at any moment, making it well suited to live betting.
One Day International (ODI)
In this 50-over format the pace is slower than T20 but far more tactical. The ICC Cricket World Cup is played in this format. Wickets falling in the middle overs can shift odds quickly, which makes it interesting for bettors.
Test Cricket
This five-day format is the original form of cricket. A draw is always possible, so there are more market options — you can bet on a team win, a draw, or a series result. Pitch conditions and weather play an important role in how odds are set for Tests.
The Most-Watched Tournaments
- BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) — the home tournament, closest to Bangladeshi fans.
- IPL (Indian Premier League) — the biggest T20 league in the world, with strong odds on every match.
- T20 World Cup and ICC Tournaments — the main stage to follow Bangladesh Tigers' international performances.
- Bilateral Series — Bangladesh's home and away series offer opportunities for longer-term markets.
Betting on Football and Other Sports
Alongside cricket, tk44 also offers football betting. Markets are available for English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Bangladesh Premier Football League matches.
Cricket and football betting are quite different. Cricket has specific markets like runs per over, top batsman or toss bets — football has markets like goal scorer, half-time result or corner kicks. The rhythm of play and how you read the statistics are completely different in each sport, so experience in one does not transfer directly to the other.
If you want to bet on multiple cricket and football matches at the same time, see the multi bet section for details — it explains the rules for combining multiple markets in one bet.
Popular Betting Markets — What to Bet On
Dozens of markets are open for every match. Below are the seven most commonly used markets, explained with simple examples.
Match Winner
A straightforward bet on which team will win. In T20 or ODI there are usually two outcomes (tie or no-result handled separately). Example: Team A vs Team B — if you back Team A at their odds and Team A wins, you receive the return.
Toss Bet
A bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The probability of each outcome is nearly equal, so odds are usually close. This market has no connection to the match result and is seen by many as a good entry point.
Top Batsman
A bet on which batter in a specific team will score the most runs. If two batters finish with the same score in the same innings, the bookmaker's rules apply. This market gets more attention when a batter is in good form.
Total Runs Over / Under
A bet on whether the total runs in a full match or a specific innings will be above or below a set line. Example: T20 line at 160 — an Over bet means you expect the team to score 161 or more.
Top Bowler
A bet on which bowler will take the most wickets. Whether a fast bowler or spinner has the advantage depends on pitch and wicket conditions. A strong over or two wickets in a row can shift the odds quickly.
Half-Century / Century Bet
A bet on whether a specific batter will score 50 or 100 runs. Odds on this market are generally higher because the probability is lower. It depends on field conditions and what the team needs.
Multi Bet (Multiple Markets)
You can combine multiple markets from different matches, or from the same match, into a single bet. Full details on multi bet rules and strategy are available on a separate page. If one market loses the entire bet loses, but a winning multi bet returns significantly more.
How to Read Odds — Three Formats
Odds on betting sites are shown in three ways. All three carry the same information — only the presentation differs. The examples below are based on a ৳1,000 bet on Team A to win.
| Format | Team A Odds | Return on ৳1,000 Bet |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 2.50 | ৳2,500 (profit ৳1,500) |
| Fractional | 3/2 | ৳2,500 (profit ৳1,500) |
| American | +150 | ৳2,500 (profit ৳1,500) |
All three formats carry the same information — if Team A wins, a ৳1,000 bet returns a total of ৳2,500 (৳1,500 profit + original stake ৳1,000). If Team A loses, the full ৳1,000 is lost.
The favourite's odds are lower. Example — backing Team B to win: Decimal 1.80, Fractional 4/5, American -125. A minus sign (-) in American odds means how much you need to stake to win ৳100 — in this case ৳125. A ৳1,000 bet on Team B winning returns a total of ৳1,800 (profit ৳800).
Decimal format is the simplest — just multiply the odds by your stake to get the total return. tk44 displays odds in all formats.

Live In-Play Betting — Odds Shift With Every Wicket
Placing a bet before a match starts is called pre-match betting. But with tk44's live in-play betting, you can also place new bets while the game is in progress — odds are updated after every ball.
Say Team A is 85 for 3 after 10 overs in a T20. In that situation Team A's odds to win might shorten (because they are in a strong position) while Team B's odds lengthen. If two wickets fall in the next over, the picture could reverse entirely.
You can also bet live on Over/Under markets — for example, how many runs will be scored in the next 5 overs. Odds on these markets change minute by minute, so decisions need to be made quickly.
Timing matters in live betting. Confirming a bet takes a moment, so a market can close before the odds are finalised.
Markets Available in Live Betting
- Next wicket type (run out, bowled, caught)
- Total runs Over/Under in the next over
- Match Winner (updated odds)
- Total runs in the powerplay
- Man of the Match pre-indicator
Things to Keep in Mind Before You Start Betting
Cricket betting is a form of entertainment. Keeping the following points in mind will make the experience more controlled.
Start with one format
T20, ODI and Test each have different markets. Focus on one format first. T20 matches are short, so decisions are relatively straightforward.
Set a budget
Decide how much you are willing to spend on betting before you start and stay within that limit. Increasing your budget to chase losses is not a good idea.
Don't combine markets when starting out
Multi bets offer higher returns but also carry higher risk. When you are new, gain experience by placing single bets on one market at a time.
Compare odds
Look at the odds across different markets in the same match. In decimal format, the higher the number the greater the return — but the lower the likelihood of that outcome.
Avoid rushing in live betting
Odds move fast in live betting. Rather than placing a large bet in a rush during an exciting moment, take time to observe the situation first.
